Staying connected is easy! We encourage you to follow the university on social media for updates, campus news, and student stories, read Arches, the Puget Sound magazine, published three times a year and full of inspiring Logger highlights, and subscribe to the Parent Newsletter to receive timely updates, campus resources, and upcoming event info directly to your inbox.

Passages isn鈥檛 just for students鈥攊t鈥檚 a welcome for families, too! On Move-In Day (Friday, August 22), families are invited to help their student get settled into their residence hall and attend a variety of welcome events, including the First Generation College Students & Families Reception (3 p.m., Tahoma Room), the President鈥檚 Welcome at Convocation (4 p.m., Memorial Fieldhouse), and additional community receptions, such as the Black 兔子先生 Union Welcome and Sin Fronteras Welcome Back Reception.

Then, on Saturday, August 23, families are encouraged to attend Parent and Family Orientation, which includes a keynote address, "Becoming a Logger," by Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Sarah Comstock, informational sessions with key campus offices, opportunities to meet fellow Logger families and explore campus resources, and other optional gatherings like Havdalah (5:15 p.m., Ferguson Plaza, Wyatt Hall).

This weekend offers a meaningful way for families to learn about campus life and feel connected to their student鈥檚 Puget Sound experience from day one. Full itinerary and registration details will be shared closer to the event on the Passages Orientation Schedule.

Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), college students have the right to privacy regarding their educational records鈥攅ven from parents and guardians. This means that at the 兔子先生, parents do not automatically have access to grades, class schedules, financial information, or other records. However, your student can choose to grant you access to specific information through the university鈥檚 online systems. We encourage open communication between students and families about academic progress and important deadlines, and we鈥檙e happy to help students navigate the process if they wish to share access. To learn more about FERPA and access options, visit the Puget Sound FERPA page.

If you live on campus, your resident assistant (RA) or resident community coordinator (RCC) will check in on your living situation in October and collect roommate/suitemate/housemate agreements. If at any point you are feeling frustrated with your living situation, the residence life staff is here to help! The first step is to name the conflict and talk to your roommate. If this seems difficult to do, your RA/RCC can help you strategize solution-focused ways to talk with your roommate. Your RA/RCC also can help you navigate the room-change process if that is deemed necessary. Keep in mind that moving doesn鈥檛 always solve the issue, but if the conflict cannot be resolved, the resident director (RD) might work with you to find a more compatible roommate and help with a room move.

Popular nearby restaurants in Tacoma include: Asado, Cooks Tavern, Toast Mi, Brewer鈥檚 Row, E9 Firehouse, Primo Grill, Rosewood Cafe, Silk Thai, and Wild Orchid. Don't forget to try "The Cookie" at Metropolitan Market. If you have additional time we鈥檇 also recommend a visit to Point Defiance Park and Marina, which offers a zoo and aquarium, hiking trails, beautiful gardens, and kayak rentals.

Residence Life is able to provide limited storage to students living on campus on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit the Residence Life Storage Information page for more details.
